Sources close to the incident report that competitor Chad 'Bullet Whisperer' Thompson, running a factory HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor, experienced what he described as 'anomalous reticle drift' and 'an unprompted desire for gut piles' during Stage 4, 'The Elk's Last Stand.' Thompson, zeroed at 100 yards with handloaded 140gr ELD-Ms showing an SD of 4.3 and ES of 12 over a 10-shot chrono string, initially attributed the behavior to an overlooked Coriolis correction or perhaps an aggressive mirage boil on the distant 800-yard silhouette.
