In a display of unwavering commitment to consistency, local PRS standout Chet 'The Chrono' Ripley last week meticulously 'trued' his living room recliner to achieve a previously unattainable sub-MOA ergonomic alignment. Ripley, fresh off a podium finish at the NRL National Championship, utilized his Noveske Switchblock AR10, topped with a Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 with the Mil-XT reticle, to gather critical data points on furniture shift and cushion compression.
“The goal was to eliminate any potential variables in my 'home stage' setup,” Ripley explained, adjusting the parallax on his scope while observing a dust particle drift across a lamp shade. “The micro-fluctuations in seat height and backrest angle, while seemingly minor, can introduce significant error over an extended Netflix session. My DOPE card for the optimal viewing position now accounts for density altitude within the room and even the Coriolis effect from my ceiling fan.”
Ripley's methodology involved extensive positional shooting, transitioning from a prone support off the coffee table to a modified seated barricade position utilizing an ottoman. He ran multiple velocity nodes on the remote control's trajectory to the designated landing zone on the armrest, ensuring repeatable placement within an acceptable SD/ES. A LABRADAR Doppler radar chronograph was employed to measure the 'shot-to-shot' consistency of cushion rebound, with Ripley noting, “A cold bore shot on the recliner’s lever, after a 30-minute cooling period, proved crucial for establishing baseline consistency.”
The Noveske’s Switchblock gas system, typically optimized for suppressed or unsuppressed cyclic rates, was set to a custom “silent recline” mode to avoid disturbing the optimal barrel harmonics of the television’s audio output. While some might question the application of a 6.5 Creedmoor AR10 to domestic engineering, Ripley remains steadfast. “If it’s not trued, it’s not true. This level of precision is non-negotiable, whether you’re ringing steel at 1200 yards or settling in for a documentary.”
