Gary Gribble, a familiar face at the Barricade Bust-Up Bonanza club matches, recently unveiled his revolutionary "Reverse Truing" protocol, promising an entirely new dimension in ballistic optimization. Eschewing conventional wisdom of verifying muzzle velocity and truing data to observed impacts, Gribble asserted that intentionally introducing significant error at the front end would somehow "stress-test" a projectile's flight characteristics, uncovering latent potential.
His experimental 6.5 Creedmoor load, featuring a 140gr Hornady ELD-M, was built on deliberately mixed headstamp brass, primers selected at random from CCI #450 and Federal 210M bins, and charges derived from averaging three completely different powder types. Gribble then chronographed his "baseline" velocity by firing through a closed car window, leading to an initial SD/ES that shattered existing records for inconsistency. This profoundly unreliable data was then "Reverse Trued" in his Kestrel, intentionally offsetting spin drift and Coriolis effect calculations by an arbitrary 2.7 MRAD, aiming for a "negative velocity node" at 700 yards.
The results, observed firsthand during a recent practice session on a standard 1000-yard range, were nothing short of perplexing. While initial cold bore shots from his Defiance Tenacity action, Criterion pre-fit barrel, and MPA Comp Chassis demonstrated predictable flight out to 300 yards, longer engagements revealed unsettling phenomena. Rounds would occasionally appear to vanish mid-flight, only to reappear several yards off-target with an audible "pop." During a 700-yard stage focusing on barricade technique, Gribble successfully engaged a steel IPSC target, only for another round, moments later, to strike the 100-yard berm behind the shooting line, having reportedly executed a perfect 180-degree mid-flight reversal and impacting base-first.
Authorities are still debating whether Gribble's "Reverse Truing" inadvertently tapped into an unknown physics constant or simply demonstrated the FAFO principle with unprecedented flair. The IPSC target, incidentally, remained unmoved.
