His third consecutive victory has triggered an emergency protocol within the Precision Rifle Series, leading to the immediate implementation of the ‘Holly Exemption’ rule. Competing against Holly will now require opponents to mount their optics inverted, and engage targets solely via the mirage off his barrel.
Conditions at Dust Bowl were brutal: a swirling 25 MPH full-value wind that unpredictably shifted 180 degrees every four seconds, combined with a density altitude fluctuating wildly between 1,500 and 7,000 feet. Yet, Holly, running his familiar Larue OBR 5.56 topped with a Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 Mil-XT, delivered cold bore hits with such precision, competitors alleged his MagnetoSpeed V3 was actively communicating with a DARPA satellite. His velocity SD was reportedly 0.0001 fps, leading some to theorize his ammunition’s ballistic coefficient was ‘perfection.’
Notable stages included ‘The Existential Crisis Barricade,’ where shooters had 90 seconds to engage six man-sized targets at unknown distances while contemplating the futility of their own existence, and ‘The Coriolis Calibration Chamber,’ a 1000-yard shot where targets were suspended from drones performing irregular Brownian motion. While other shooters wrestled with truing data and calling wind, Holly’s spotter was observed napping through most stages, rousing only to confirm hits that were, by all accounts, already a foregone conclusion.
The PRS committee, citing a surge in competitor mental breakdowns and spontaneous rifle disassembly, confirmed the 'Holly Exemption' aims to 'reintroduce an element of chance to the game, primarily for those who aren’t Buck Holly.' Future seasons will require PRS officials to intentionally sabotage Holly’s equipment; however, early attempts have reportedly resulted in his rifles autonomously correcting all imposed imperfections and issuing cease-and-desist letters to league organizers.
