The Precision Rifle Series, in a landmark announcement poised to redefine competitive long-range shooting, has officially unveiled new 'Dynamic Transition' scoring categories for the 2025 season. Citing the need to 'holistically evaluate marksmanship under extreme physical duress,' competitors will now be penalized for any delay exceeding 2.5 seconds between dismounting a PRS Tank Trap and acquiring their next firing position on a Roof Top Barricade. Sources within the PRS Board indicate this shift is designed to align more closely with "kinetic efficiency metrics" previously exclusive to run-and-gun handgun disciplines.
The most profound change introduces mandatory "Tactical Barrel Rolls" for specific inter-stage movements. Shooters must execute a controlled, forward commando roll while maintaining positive muzzle control, immediately after their final shot on a plate rack at 620 yards, before engaging a new target array at 880 yards. The roll itself will be timed, and any deviation from a perfectly perpendicular trajectory, or failure to immediately acquire an acceptable prone position with bipod deployed, will incur a 3-point deduction per infraction. Ammunition management is also being scrutinized, with random mid-stage 'field reloading sprints' requiring a full magazine swap and chambering within 4.0 seconds, regardless of current engagement status.
Lead PRS Director, 'Deadeye' Dave McMillan, explained, 'While a 6XC hitting steel at 1100 yards is impressive, can you do it after a 30-yard sprint, a belly crawl under barbed wire, and while simultaneously adjusting your DOPE card for a sudden 20 MPH crosswind shift? That's the question we're now asking.' Gear choices are already adapting; heavy Vudoo V-22 barrels are out, replaced by lighter, more maneuverable Proof Research Sendero Light contours. Chassis systems like the MDT ACC are seeing modular accessories designed for rapid detachment and reattachment during movement. Spin drift and Coriolis compensation will now need to be mentally calculated during the roll itself. Future plans hinted at mandatory target engagement from a moving vehicle, or perhaps competitive, timed field autopsies performed on downed steel targets.
