However, the integrity of this setup hinges on the mounting solution, as any deviation in alignment between a clip-on unit and the primary scope's optical axis can introduce significant point of impact shifts.
MDT has addressed this critical alignment challenge with the release of its One-Piece NV Bridge. This 13-inch, 20-MOA Picatinny rail is designed to bolt directly onto compatible MDT fore-ends, ensuring a common line of sight between the clip-on device and the riflescope. By matching the elevation built into a 20-MOA scope base, the bridge facilitates proper tracking and minimizes the parallax-like effects of an offset clip-on.
Crafted as a single machined component from 6061-T6 aluminum, the One-Piece NV Bridge mitigates the potential for movement or misalignment that can occur with multi-segment rail designs. The component undergoes Type III hard anodizing, followed by an additional Cerakote finish. This robust surface treatment is specified for demanding use, recognizing that these units are frequently mounted at dusk and removed at dawn, subjecting the mounting interface to repeated clamping cycles over a competitive season.
The bridge weighs 5.9 ounces, with reported dimensions of 13.01 inches in length, 1.96 inches in width, and 0.95 inches in height. Attachment to the MDT fore-end is accomplished via 6-32 flat-head screws, which MDT specifies to be torqued to 15 inch-pounds using a T10 driver. Compatibility extends to the MDT ACC Elite, ACC Premier Gen2, and LSS Gen3 Competition fore-ends.
To ensure optimal performance, MDT outlines specific requirements for rifle configurations. The system mandates a 20-MOA scope base or an integrated rail, in conjunction with scope rings that are at least 1½ inches tall. Barrel length must exceed 15 inches to prevent interference with the front of the bridge, and muzzle diameter should not surpass 1.1 inches.
The One-Piece NV Bridge package includes two spacers that allow the bridge to be elevated by 0.2 inches. This feature accommodates straight-contour barrels with diameters up to 1¼ inches. However, MDT explicitly notes a trade-off: when these spacers are installed, the Picatinny rail on the bridge no longer maintains alignment with the primary scope base. For this reason, MDT does not recommend using the spacer-equipped setup for night vision or thermal applications where precise optical alignment is paramount. Shooters opting for this configuration would likely need taller rings, with MDT suggesting 1.7 inches or more, or a riflescope with a smaller objective bell to achieve proper clearance and sight picture.
