The collegiate rifle season delivered exceptional precision last weekend with two perfect 600-point air rifle scores recorded across the country. Teagan Perkowski of Alaska-Fairbanks achieved his flawless run in the Nanooks' opening match, while West Virginia's Océanne Muller posted her third perfect score of the fall, setting a new program record for the Mountaineers.
Perkowski's performance on October 16 at home in Fairbanks saw him string together six consecutive 100-point targets for a 600-51X. This impressive display came as Alaska-Fairbanks commenced their season and Patriot Rifle Conference schedule, securing a 4723-4674 victory over Ohio State. The Nanooks demonstrated strong control across disciplines, winning smallbore with a 2334-2305 advantage and air rifle with a 2389-2369.
Just a day later, Muller etched her name into the record books with a 600-58X at Georgia Southern’s Shooting Sports Education Center. This score, leaving only two of her sixty shots outside the crucial X-ring, marked the first 600 ever recorded at that facility. Her pinpoint precision anchored top-ranked West Virginia's 4741-4728 win against No. 4 Georgia Southern, extending the Mountaineers’ winning streak to five consecutive victories. According to the school, no Mountaineer athlete had ever previously recorded three 600s in a single season or across their career.
These two individual achievements push the total number of perfect 600-point scores this season to eight, with West Virginia accounting for half of them. Beyond Muller's contributions, teammate Jennifer Kocher posted a 600 at Army on October 4. On the same day, Navy's Isabella Baldwin and Tyler Wee each achieved 600s during a match at Ohio State. Kentucky's Braden Peiser also delivered a perfect score on October 10.
Muller's fall season consistency has been remarkable, having dropped only two points in air rifle across five matches. Her previous 600s this semester include an opening performance at home in Morgantown on September 26 and another at Army on October 3. Her only blemishes have been a pair of 599s, the latest occurring on October 18. On that day, she also contributed a 591 in smallbore for an 1190 aggregate. That particular three-way match saw Georgia Southern claim a 4740-362X victory, snapping West Virginia's five-match winning streak with the Mountaineers finishing at 4738-354X, while Alabama-Birmingham placed third with 4568-222X.
