The latest release from Texas-based Longshot Cameras, version 5.3.5 of its Longshot App, delivers a series of updates designed to refine how competitors and enthusiasts interact with their downrange target cameras, primarily focusing on system speed and shot data management.
This update follows a significant app overhaul earlier in the year. According to Company President Clay Rhoden, the development work for 5.3.5 centered on two key areas: creating a quicker, more responsive application experience, and providing shooters with more robust tools for analyzing their shot impacts on paper.
The pursuit of speed is evident in the app's upgraded video streaming system. This enhancement aims to boost efficiency and reduce latency, ensuring the live view from the target maintains a closer real-time pace with actual events downrange. For competitive shooters, this reduced delay can be critical for observing immediate bullet trace, mirage shifts, or subtle changes in conditions, allowing for more precise follow-up shots or adjustments.
A significant new feature is the integration of audio streaming. Shooters utilizing an Install or Competition Kit equipped with a microphone can now receive live audio feedback directly from the target area, alongside the video feed. This capability offers another layer of sensory input, potentially aiding in impact confirmation, identifying ricochets, or even discerning environmental cues downrange, particularly useful for solo shooters focused on maintaining a consistent firing rhythm.
The update also brings several improvements to shot marking, an essential function for load development, zero confirmation, and data truing. A new option to 'keep session markers' allows shooters to retain their marked impacts across an extended range session, eliminating the need to restart marking for new groups or strings. Complementing this, a 'continuous marker count' provides a running tally as shots are logged, helping maintain organization during long strings of fire typical of data collection for ballistic solvers.
Further enhancing data capture, the app's Blinker Shot Locator has been updated with a 'Capture on Mark' function. This feature automatically records a fresh Blinker image each time a shooter places a shot marker. This streamlines the documentation process, building a detailed visual record of each impact without requiring additional manual taps, which can be invaluable for post-session analysis of group dispersion or tracking changes over time.
Finally, the new 'Analyze Media' feature provides a dedicated space within the app for reviewing recorded video and images from a range session. This centralized hub, demonstrated in a walkthrough video from Longshot on their YouTube channel, gives shooters a focused environment to study their performance, identify trends, and refine their approach.
These new capabilities integrate with the app’s existing suite of features, which includes live target video, manual shot marking, group measurement, zero adjustment, session recording, and general media management. Version 5.3.5 of the Longshot App is now available for download on both iOS and Android platforms, compatible with existing Longshot camera systems.
