ZeroTech has released the Trace X 5-25x56 FFP, introducing three illuminated models to its existing Trace lineup. This new optic is positioned by ZeroTech as a versatile choice for precision competition and hunting, maintaining the same core optical and mechanical specifications across all reticle configurations.
The Trace X features a robust 34mm main tube and a 56mm objective lens. It incorporates a zero-stop elevation turret and a capped windage adjustment, crucial features for precision rifle disciplines. Shooters can select from three first focal plane (FFP) reticles: the RMG-H MRAD, RMG 3 MRAD, or RMG-H MOA. In Australia, all three versions carry an identical pricing of A$1,299.
As a first focal plane optic, the Trace X ensures that reticle subtensions remain consistent across its entire 5-25x magnification range. ZeroTech highlights the inclusion of illumination as a key feature, designed to enhance reticle visibility, particularly at lower magnifications where fine reticles can be challenging to acquire.
The RMG-H reticle, described as ZeroTech's precision hunting design, is available in both MRAD and MOA variants. The MRAD version provides fine references with 0.1 and 0.2 MRAD resolution, while the MOA version utilizes 0.5 and 1 MOA references. Both RMG-H designs feature illuminated centers and extend their windage and elevation markings into heavier outer bars. The RMG 3 reticle takes a distinct approach, characterized by a floating center cross and 0.2 MRAD increments, offering a 0.1 MRAD resolution. Its most noticeable visual distinction is a graduated grid positioned below the center, contrasting with the more open layout of the RMG-H.
Mechanically, the MRAD models of the Trace X utilize 0.1 MRAD click adjustments, offering a total of 34 MRAD of elevation travel and 17 MRAD of windage adjustment. The MOA version features quarter-MOA clicks, providing 116 MOA of total elevation and 58 MOA of windage. ZeroTech specifies these figures represent total internal travel, rather than the available adjustment above a rifle's zero. The exposed elevation turret is equipped with a zero stop, while the windage turret remains capped. Side parallax adjustment ranges from 20 meters to infinity. At the ocular end, the dioptre offers a -3 to +2 adjustment range, secured by a lock ring to prevent accidental changes.
Reticle illumination is managed by a push button located on the end of the parallax turret. It provides six distinct brightness settings and is powered by a CR2032 battery. For power conservation, the illumination system includes an automatic shut-off feature, engaging after approximately two hours of inactivity.
The optical system of the Trace X incorporates a German SCHOTT internal glass element and fully multi-coated lenses. The scope maintains a constant eye relief of 97mm. The field of view at 100 meters ranges from 8.3 meters at 5x magnification down to 1.6 meters at 25x magnification.
Constructed from 6061-T6 aluminium with a matte-black finish, the Trace X measures 376mm in length and weighs 883g. Its objective housing has a 64mm outside diameter, and the optic carries an IPX7 waterproof rating, indicating its resilience in various field conditions. Each Trace X scope includes a neoprene scope cover, rubber bikini-style lens covers, hex keys, and a microfibre cloth. ZeroTech backs the Trace X with its transferable Triple A lifetime warranty.
