Swarovski has introduced its new 8x32 EL Range binoculars, positioning them as the smallest and lightest rangefinding binoculars currently available. This design addresses a common challenge for precision rifle competitors and serious long-range enthusiasts: integrating advanced ranging capabilities without adding significant weight or bulk to their gear.

Traditional rangefinding binoculars, while highly functional, are often noted for their size and weight. The 8x32 EL Range aims to eliminate this compromise. Weighing less than 700g with the battery installed, it is reported to be over 175g lighter than the next lightest option in its class. Its compact dimensions, at only 15cm long, further underscore its portability. The 8x32 model, alongside the 10x32, is part of a series that also includes larger 8x42, 10x42, and 12x42 variants, with the 32mm objective models being the most diminutive in the lineup.

Optically, the EL Range 8x32 binoculars are described as featuring "beautifully clear, crisp lenses" and high-end glass that delivers impressive clarity, color rendition, and contrast. Even in heavily overcast conditions, the optics are reported to pick out detail effectively. The 8x magnification, combined with the quality of the glass, is noted to be highly effective, potentially surpassing the performance of 10x magnification in lesser quality optics, particularly as light begins to fade.

The electronic heart of the EL Range is housed within a bulge in the right barrel, powered by a CR2 battery. Ranged distances and other data are displayed via red LED text and symbols within the right eyepiece. Users can configure the display to show a compass bearing, holdover based on ballistic data, tilt angle, or ballistic distance to the target. Adjusting these settings is a quick process, allowing users to check multiple data points like holdover and compass bearing efficiently before taking a shot.

A key feature for precision shooters is the integrated ballistic calculator. Ballistic data, for example, for a .30-06, can be transferred to the binoculars via the Swarovski Hunting app. The system offers holdover readouts in MOA, mils, centimeters, inches, or even the number of clicks required on a scope's turret, providing precise DOPE at the ranging point. The 8x32 models are capable of ranging targets up to 1500m, while the models with 42mm objectives extend this capability to 2000m.

Another advanced function is the distance-based tracking mode. This assistant helps locate a downed target by comparing its original ranged distance with the user's movement from the firing point, guiding the user towards the target. This mode is reported to be generally spot-on for distance, with only minor deviations of a few meters left or right. Its utility can be enhanced by plotting the data on a map using the accompanying app.

Ergonomically, the EL Range binoculars feature superb armor coating, texture, and overall design. Practical details include quick-release attachment knobs for the strap, compatible with other Swarovski straps, and a clever strap length adjustment. The neoprene neck portion of the strap even includes a small pocket for a spare CR2 battery. The binoculars come with a padded shoulder bag, cleaning cloth, special tool, lens caps, and a handbook, though a chest harness is sold separately.

Positioned as the most affordable in Swarovski's rangefinding lineup, the EL Range 8x32 is available at $4400. This optic presents a high-performance, feature-rich solution with a focus on reduced size and weight, combined with Austrian quality, making it a compelling option for competitive shooters seeking integrated ballistic data acquisition in a highly portable package.
